Mission to Simplify Online Life
In the blog statement that LastPass released, they noted that it’s been their mission to simplify the online lives of people everywhere. And there’s nothing better than a password manager that can create, store and type your (strong) passwords for the various websites/services that you need ’em for. LastPass was a good free solution to this problem, but the paywall for multi-device was a hurdle for some folks. Removing that paywall now allows more people to dive into the service and reap the benefits – the primary being not worrying about remember all those passwords. But, as we’ve seen time and again in tech, free services usually come at a price. Most times, it’s at a loss of privacy – which is how Google targets its ads business, by making everything you use from their suite of services, completely free. But the data it collects from your browsing is shared with other businesses who can target people who are specifically interested in things like technology, automobiles, etc. However, those with longer memories can recall that LastPass used to be a free service with a top paid tier, then got acquired by LogMeIn and made changes to their pricing structure. All of this led to much confusion, rather than going on about it (again), I’d encourage you to check our brief synopsis and some alternatives. However, Joe Siegrist, Founder, VP & GM of LastPass noted, That is a positive sign and we’re hoping that LastPass can resist the dark side and be one with the force.
How to Enable Multi-Device Access
If you’re already using LastPass, then you don’t need to worry about anything. There is nothing to be done, but if you were using it only on your smartphone, then you can now use it on your laptop’s Chrome browser as well as any other device, without having to pay. All your data will sync automatically and you are good to go. This also means that no matter what device you use to create a new password, the same will be synced automatically across all the devices which have LastPass installed. There is no limit on the number of devices, nor the number of passwords that can thus be created and stored. Paid subscribers need not cry fowl, this is the only feature that has been made free, whilst others like priority customer support, family password sharing with up to 5 others, and additional two-factor authentication options are still only for subscribers for the premium plan.
